About
Jack Schabert is a Twin Cities, MN & Denver, CO based musician, composer, and educator. He has recently received composition awards from the University of Denver, Ithaca College, and the New York Youth Symphonies. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from St. Olaf College and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Jazz Composition at the University of Denver.
Jack leads professional jazz ensembles in the Twin Cities, and has performed over three hundred shows over the last few years. His compositions for Jazz Orchestra have been performed by high school, college, and professional big bands in Minnesota. He is a member of the Twin Cities Jazz Composer’s Workshop, and is currently serving a term on the Board of Directors of the MetroNOME Foundation as well as the Twin Cities Jazz Festival. He books and arranges youth jazz performances for MetroNOME Brewery’s Next Generation Jazz Series, and directs the MetroNOME Honors Youth Jazz Orchestra. He has recently been commissioned to write new music for Saint Paul Central High school, Roseville High School, the Minnesota Youth Jazz Bands, and the New York Youth Symphony.
His group, the Blue Ox Jazz Trio, is consistently upholding a busy performance schedule, performing at restaurants, clubs, weddings, private events, and countless retirement homes every year. Jack has performed with international jazz artists Melissa Aldana, Danilo Perez (Wayne Shorter Quartet), Doreen Ketchens, Kenni Holmen (Prince, Vulfpeck) and 9 time Grammy Award winning trumpeter Wynton Marsalis.
